QOL update up!


As I kinda maybe sorta promised, here's the QoL build with an all new settings menu, the ability to zoom in and out (which nobody asked for), character portraits for dialogue, and an overhaul of Ending 2's sequence so it's actually cool now. If you've already played the game, you may want to check out that overhaul, but overall, it really is just QoL features.

Like you would imagine, the HTML build probably performs worse now, so download it for best performance. I apologize to the MacOS users. I'll sit down and figure it out eventually.

There's also an artpack available for people who want to take a closer look at some of the art in the game or Youtubers who need thumbnail art. yep it's now easier to make videos on this game if that is a thing you do i totally wouldn't do that

Here's the full changelog:

  • Setting menu added with in-depth volume controls. Access it with the settings button in the main menu or in the pause menu.
  • Toggle full-screen with Shift + F for the Windows build. It now opens full-screen by default but I suggest playing it windowed because of how full-screen is implemented in such a fashion that there's this weird anti-aliasing effect on it.
  • Tweaked platforming code to include coyote timing and more jump control. You'll definitely need it?
  • Adjusted certain calculations to account for device FPS.
  • Possible fix for particle-related stutter and being stuck falling due to healing from the computer. I have no idea if these are fixed because I haven't encountered the former and I can't reproduce the latter anymore.
  • Game over screen now disappears if you revive yourself at a computer. It's not a bug, it's a feature...? Let's just conclude that computers are almighty.
  • Added keycard floating animation and door animation. Maybe something will happen if you collect both keycards now?
  • Additional sound effects added as well as volume adjustment. You can actually hear what happens if you idle long enough. That's crazy.
  • Ending 2 sequence (not the actual cutscene) has been overhauled for (hopefully) a better experience.
    • Tips:
      • Stick to the left.
      • Avoid firing unless necessary or if there is an adequate amount of enemies on the screen.
      • Remember to keep moving.
      • Getting targeted is more likely as the total enemy count increases.
      • If you're still having trouble even after following these tips, try initializing the ending trigger on a later level. The difficulty is completely dependent on your choices.
  • Endings now automatically quit to the main menu.
  • Dialogue box UI has now been changed to include character portraits.
  • Levels 3, 4, 5, and 6 have been adjusted.
  • Added camera zoom feature. Zoom in with = or + and zoom out with -. Also fixed sprite jitter from camera smoothing by introducing manual smoothing. Now you can play the entire game zoomed in if you so choose to do so. If there are enough issues that arise from the manual smoothing, an option to switch back to Godot's built-in camera smoothing may be added in a future update.
  • Burnt variant of white blocks now correspond to their counterpart. This was an issue that probably bothered me and only me, but hey, now it's fixed.
  • Toggle HUD with H. This resets at the beginning of every level in case someone accidentally hits H and doesn't know how to bring it back.
  • the cake is still a lie

Yes, there may be another update after this with actual proper new features and new levels.  There are currently no plans to implement any of those features, but it depends on my availability. I could've probably finished those features before updating this, but I did say I'd try to get it done within 2 weeks, and it would've taken another weekend to finish them... If you haven't played it yet, you should probably just play the game now instead of waiting for any additional updates, though. I make no promises (except when I do).
